Passive On-Line In-Band Interference Inference in Centralized WLANs

چکیده
In this paper, we describe a passive on-line method for determining the conflict graph in a centralized wireless LAN. The key insight in our work is to exploit the relative timing between successfully received frames: if two successful frames sent on two different links overlap in time, then the corresponding links do not interfere; if they are consistently adjacent, then those links do interfere. Our scheme is inband and does not require additional monitoring hardware, nor does it require any modifications to clients. In contrast to recent work that has focused on partial on-line estimation of conflict graphs (restricted to downlinks from APs to clients), our approach can detect the complete conflict graph (both uplinks and downlinks). Using extensive experiments on an 802.11 a/b/g indoor testbed we demonstrate the accuracy of our scheme (even under external interference) and its rapid convergence. Moreover, we demonstrate that our interference inference method can be used in an on-line fashion: the inferred conflict graph can be used to dynamically and explicitly allocate airtime to each link, a capability that can avoid TCP flow starvation, solve the rate anomaly problem, and help manage traffic in a centralized WLAN.

متن کاملPerformance of IEEE 802.11 WLANs in a Bluetooth environment
Abstract—Coexistence of different wireless systems that share the same frequency band is becoming one of the most challenging issue due to the wide-spread popularity of WLANs and to the rapid development of shortrange radio systems. In this paper we consider WLANs based on the IEEE 802.11 standard and a short-range radio system based on Bluetooth specifications, which operate in the 2.4 GHz ISM...
متن کاملCancellation of Zigbee interference in OFDM based WLAN for multipath channel
Zigbee is one of the major sources of interference in 2.4GHz band for WLANs. It is seen whenever any Zigbee system is operating near to the WLAN system and transmitting signal at same frequency, time as of WLAN’s, the later ones performance detoriate severely. So in this paper an algorithm is proposed to estimate Zigbee interference component present in all OFDM based WLANs sub-carriers and can...
متن کاملA Distributed Constraint Optimization Algorithm for Dynamic Load Balancing in WLANs
The traffic load of Wireless local area networks (WLANs) is often distributed unevenly among access points. In addition, interference from collocated wireless devices operating in the same unlicensed frequency band may cause WLANs to become unstable, leading to temporarily failures of access points. This paper addresses how to dynamically balance the load and how to quickly respond to instabili...
متن کاملAsymptotic Close to Optimal Resource Allocation in Centralized Multi-band Wireless Networks
This paper concerns sub-channel allocation in multi-user wireless networks with a view to increasing the network throughput. It is assumed there are some sub-channels to be equally divided among active links, such that the total sum rate increases, where it is assumed each link is subject to a maximum transmit power constraint. This problem is found to be a non-convex optimization problem and i...
